Bensenville, IL - The vagaries of tournament seeding set up an intrastate contest between the #7 Sooners of Oklahoma University and the #10 Broncos of the University of Central Oklahoma, and it took two extra periods to settle the issue. In the end, the Broncos prevailed 5-4 on an unassisted goal from Alex Jackson in the second overtime in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division I National Championship Tournament on March 6, 2010 at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, IL.
The two teams traded goals in the first and second periods until the Broncos scored twice in 36 second late in the second period as Mike Haszto (North Ridgeville, OH) and Derek Szecsodi (Clio, MI) each found the net.
The Sooners knotted the game at four-all with goals mid-way through the third from Jesse Bryant (Anchorage, AK) and Troy Puente (Thousand Oaks, CA).
Neither team could score in the ensuing half-hour of play, until Alex Jackson (Aurora, IL) got the game winner 2:38 into the second overtime.
The win sent UCO into Sunday's quarterfinal with second-seeded Penn State University. That game will be played 1:00 PM CST at the Edge.
